Hey there!

I am fostering Hurricane Shaq.

First off I will say Shaq has a strong personalty that’s for sure lol

I’ll jump right into the biggest “issue” he has; Scent Marking. Shaq is an avid marker, thankfully except for the first two nights (Where we went through the bad bands so fast I ended up having to make more) it’s only been outside. It was noted in his prison book that this had been something he’s done since they got him so thankfully it doesn’t seem like it was brought on by stress or being in a new environment. When we’re outside he goes to every bush and tree in an attempt to mark, but he doesn’t simple lift leg and pee. He has to make sure he rubs the object at just the right angle before he can mark. And if he retries a couple times and it just doesn’t seem right, he’ll go to the next one. Whenever he does mark outside I encourage him and tell him he’s a good boy so he knows it’s okay to pee outside and not inside (It’s what my dog training friend told me to do when I was having the issues the first and second day).

As for walking on lead; There’s two versions of Shaq when it comes to lead walking. When we’re on the pavement and just going for a stroll, he’s an angel. No pulling, walking on your left, keep a nice pace. When we’re on the grass it’s a completely different story. If he sees a bush, lamp post, fire hydrant, tree, it’s pull until he can get to his object of choice so he can sniff it down and decided rather he wants to pee on it or move on to the next one.
