Happy Face

 Rainbow Bridge /

The loss of Happy Face “Grini” has deeply affected us here in MI. This sweet girl passed on some of the very qualities so beloved in her children and is a part of the pedigree of many N’s dogs that come here to find their forever homes. Her spirit and heart will live on in her prodginy and I know that I’ve seen her sweet smile on the faces of her children who are now here living out their retirement. The letter below is from Sandie, Danny and Donna Axe, Happy Face’s family who raised her and cared for her from the day she was born until the day she passed over the bridge.

“Some dogs are special dogs,
even though they are not a first dog, or an only dog, or a last dog.
In a crowd they stand out,
and in the heart they have a special place.
And when they leave,
that place stands empty forever.

Our hearts are empty today as Grini took it upon her self to leave us. I guess she knew the decision for us to let her go was one that was breaking our hearts. But she was strong until the end. Yesterday climbing the stairs to be with us and taking a short walk last night to the kennel with mom. She went to sleep this morning at about 8.30 and is now free from the troubles that she had.

Grini always had a smile for you. Even during her illness she still could manage one. It is that cute smile that got her the racing name of Happy Face. We knew from the time she was a puppy that she would come home to be our family pet. She had a wonderful racing career at Derby Lane and Tampa. Went on to have 3 litters of pups and enjoy the leisure life of being on the couch. It was not until she got sick that she started to climb the stairs and get on the bed. But once she found her way there it was hard to move her off the pillows.

There are so many positive things that Grini brought in to our lives. It has been hard to see the effects of the lymphoma and the megaeshaugus on her. But she was a trooper the last 5 months. Thank you to everyone that offered their prayers and concerns and remedies to help Grini in the last few months. We are thankful to be in the world of greyhounds with so many caring and compassionate people.”
