Kiowa Hunt Good
We’ve had Hunter for just over a week now, and he is a wonderful boy and has settled in rather quickly. Hunter sleeps through the night with no issues, either in his crate or in a dog bed by our bed. He has no signs of separation anxiety and will go into his crate without issue. He is comfortable enough to start roaching. He has been crated on occasion for up to 8 hours with no problems. He is an eager eater and can clean his bowl of kibble in under a minute.
He is very excited to show off his tricks and loves to “sit” before you put his food bowl down. Hunter doesn’t counter surf, but if you are eating something he will sit very politely and give you great eye contact in the hopes that you will share. He follows us from room to room and gets really excited to greet us when we come back in from getting the mail or come up from the basement. He has done well with the small dogs we have met. We have two cats that he still loves to chase. If the cats are running, he is chasing them, but if they are hiding or sitting on the counter, he ignores them. I think he could become cat safe in time, but is firmly in the cat workable camp now.
Hunter is a great loose leash walker and prefers to walk around the block at a pretty leisurely pace, ignoring any critters. When Hunter gets excited he can get a little mouthy in his attempt at getting you to play, but is easily corrected. Hunter doesn’t seem to respond well to his name, but we have been working on recall in the backyard with treats and he has made some progress. He is outgoing and loves to meet everyone, tail wagging. If you’re hunting for the perfect greyhound, Hunter could be a greyt fit for you!
He’s been a joy to have around and a welcome distraction from this past week’s events. I know he will make a wonderful dog for someone.
